Samuel Johnson

Samuel Johnson (1709-1784) was an English writer and personality. His biography, Life of Samuel Johnson by Boswell, is an excellent portrait of this great man. Johnson published the first comprehensive dictionary of the English language, as well as essays, critiques, fiction, and guides to poetry and Shakespeare. Much of his work is available online free, as is the Life of Samuel Johnson.
