Victor BorgeVictor Borge is quite possibly the funniest man to ever walk the stage. His musical punctuation skit is legendary. A trained classical musician, Mr. Borge decided to put his talents to work amusing people. And did he amuse us! In 1999, he toured his native Scandinavia to sell-out crowds, saying, "I could hardly get a ticket myself!" Borge was a child prodigy on the piano and made his orchestral debut at the age of 10 with the Danish Symphony. He says that the transition from serious musician to comedian a natural progression. He'd make a wisecrack to help his nerves, the audience would laugh, encouraging him. His style evolved from there. Borge never works from a script. He is totally in the moment, interacting with the audience and doing what feels right to him. In the early 20s, he was a Scandinavian film star, but the Nazi invasion of Denmark in the late 30s caused him difficulty. Never one to hold his tongue, he couldn't resist taking jabs at the storm-troopers, and he ended up fleeing the country on the last American passenger ship out of Europe before the outbreak of WWII. Borge, a recipient of the Medal of Honor, presented by the Statue of Liberty Centennial Committee, was honored at Kennedy Center in December of 1999.
